'Oh dear': Cyclist stunned after celebrating too soon

Cyclist Alexey Lutsenko for team Astana was stunned on the line after he was all ready to celebrate before his opponent took advantage of a late push.

Lustenko was in a three-way sprint to the finish line on Stage 5 of the UAE Tour when he pulled ahead of Team Emirates cyclist Tadej Pogacar.

But as he appeared to slow down and raise his hands, Pogacar made a last ditch effort and edged of Lustenko right before the finish line.

“Lustenko was all ready to celebrate. Today, Pogacar I think has just grabbed that,” the commentator said.

“Look at this, gets there and ready to raise the hands.

“But oh dear.”

Pogacar was stunned himself.

“It was amazing, I started quite early and he went really fast into the corner so I lost a bit of speed,” he told Eurosport after the race.

“Lustenko passed me, but then we took the left corner together and it was a full sprint to the finish and I threw the bike on the line.”

Adam Yates from Mitchelton-Scott defended his overall lead in the General Classification.
