This tree can produce 40 different types of fruit

Artist and associate professor at New York's Syracuse University, Sam Van Aken, was showcasing his 'Tree of Fruit' project which he has been working on for more than 10 years.

''Forty different varieties of peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, cherries, almonds on one tree. But here at WEF what I'm working on is a Swiss apple tree. So it's 40 different varieties of apples that originated or are historically grown in Switzerland," he said.

"It did start with artistic motivations but then it became about preserving heritage fruit varieties," he added.

Van Aken collects the branches of felled trees at destroyed orchards to add to his trees. He fears more severe changes in weather, due to climate change, could threaten fruit trees.
