Tottenham defender Eric Dier reveals Sporting Lisbon return dream: 'I'm sure I'll be back'

Eric Dier has expressed his desire to one day return to Portugal and rekindle his love affair with Sporting CP.

The Lisbon club gave the England defender his first shot in the game, after he moved to the country as a child, and he broke into the first-team before a 2014 move to Tottenham.

Under contract to 2024, a move away from Spurs is not currently on Dier's mind but he has opened up the possibility of later switching back to Sporting - potentially when he hangs up his boots.

"One day I am sure I will be back," he is quoted by PA as saying at the Web Summit in Lisbon.

"I think it is inevitable. If my wife wants to, we'll come back one day to live when I have finished my career.

"Sporting is my club, it will always be my club, it's where I spent 12 years. Portugal as well for me is my home. I'm 29 so I hope I have a lot of years left to play. I'm still young. Football is my priority."

Dier spent the early weeks of the season on the Tottenham bench but recent injuries and suspensions have thrust him back into the team.

Back-to-back defeats to Chelsea and Wolves have stunted their rapid rise under Ange Postecoglou but the 29-year-old is not concerned about their title chances being over just yet.

"We're still at the start of the season, there is still a long way to go," he stated.

"I am experienced enough to know anything is possible."
