Tom Brady’s Rose-Gold Patek Philippe Nautilus Rocked the WNBA Finals

Tom Brady’s horological hot streak continues.

The retired NFL star wore a stylish Patek Philippe Nautilus to Game One of the 2023 WNBA Playoffs at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, October 8. The Las Vegas Aces defeated the New York Liberty 99 to 82 in the finals match, but Brady’s wrist candy was the real star.

First released in 1976, the Nautilus was a truly innovative design for the time with a porthole-shaped case, octagonal bezel, horizontally embossed dial, and integrated bracelet. Forty years on, the sports watch has been artfully reimagined a myriad of times and remains one of the most coveted models in watchmaking.

This particular example, Ref. 5980/1R, is distinguished by a rose-gold case, a contrasting black dial, and a screw-down crown. The watch also features a self-winding flyback chronograph, with a date aperture at 3 o’clock and a 60-minute and 12-hour monocounter at 6 o’clock.

Flip it over, a gold rotor bearing the Calatrava cross and Cote de Geneve stripes can be viewed through the sapphire-crystal case back. The caliber CH 28-520 C/522 offers a maximum power reserve of 55 hours. The timepiece is also water-resistant to 120 meters.

This iteration of the Nautilus comes at a cost, of course. The wrist candy is priced at a cool $108,820, but that clearly didn’t deter Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl champ has recently rocked a slew of stunning watches by an array of horological heavyweights, from vintage Rolex Daytonas to six-figure Richard Milles. The GOAT has been repping Patek, too. He wore a stainless-steel Nautilus Ref. 5711 with a white dial to Michael Rubin’s white party in July, then flexed a holy grail Ref. 2499 from the ’50s in September.

Collecting watches has become something of a hobby for the former quarterback, in fact.

“I pay attention to them and I read articles on Robb ReportGQ, Hodinkee and I follow various watch aficionado profiles on Instagram,” he told Robb Report in 2020.
