The five-eighth is sacrificing $1.1 million dollars to play in Australia - his deal with the Pride is worth $100,000 dollars.

The 31-year old desperately craves another crack at the NRL.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart was eager to sign Carney, but the Raiders board refused to sign off on the deal at a meeting last Friday, given Carney’s tumultuous history at the club.

The 2010 Dally M Medallist hasn’t given up on playing in the NRL again but concedes it’s a long shot.

The Cairns-based Northern Pride believe Carney will be a tremendous asset in developing their club - sharing 13 years of first grade experience.
