Tim Kelly misses out on move home to Western Australia
Tim Kelly will play for the Geelong Cats in 2019 after a trade to West Coast was not completed before the 8.30pm deadline.
The midfielder made a stunning impression on the league in his first year as a mature-age recruit but requested a move home for family reasons.
Kelly, however, did not want to move to Fremantle and the Eagles refused to pay Geelong’s asking price.
“We really rate Tim as a player,” West Coast list manager Brady Rawlings said.
“Unfortunately the Cats rate him just as highly as we do and wouldn’t give him up. It’s disappointing as Tim wanted to come to us and get back home.”
The Eagles were believed to have offered picks No.20 and No.22.
Kelly’s contract with the Cats expires at the end of next season.
“We’ll definitely be here again next year if he wants to come home again,” Rawlings added.

Multiple reports emerged that the deal was done just after 8pm, with the AFL confirming the details at 8.20pm.
The Bombers sent this and next year’s first-round picks to the Giants, who added a future second-round pick to balance out the trade.

Premiership star moves home
Former Brisbane captain Dayne Beams has secured his move back to Collingwood.
A premiership player with the Pies in 2010, Beams spent an emotional four years with the Lions.
The 28-year-old had moved north to be with his ill father, who passed away in March this year.
The Magpies have paid a high price for Beams, sending picks No.18 and No.56 as well as next year’s first-round selection.
The midfielder returns to Collingwood alongside picks No.41 and No.44.
Meanwhile, Collingwood will also add Western Bulldogs premiership ruckman Jordan Roughead for pick No.75.
The Bulldogs have also sent defender Marcus Adams to Brisbane for pick No.32 and a future third-round selection.
In other late trade news, Sydney’s Nic Newman made his way to Carlton for a future fourth-round pick.
