The Mets announced a 'Seinfeld' tribute night that is real and spectacular
The world of baseball is ripe with tribute nights, particularly in the minor leagues where any D-list celebrity who was famous 20 years ago can turn the minor-league park in Salem into a TV tribute night for a couple thousand bucks.
The New York Mets announced Thursday that they’re doing a “Seinfeld” tribute night on July 5 and it is decidedly not what’s outlined above. It is, in fact, real and it’s spectacular.
The Mets are reuniting Jerry Seinfeld and Keith Hernandez, a beloved former Met and famous “Seinfeld” character, at a legit ballpark party that will celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary.
"Two of my favorite things in all the world are the comedy arts and the New York Mets," Seinfeld said in a press release sent out by the Mets. "This is one moment that I am very happy to have my 'Worlds Collide!'"
The Dodgers are also doing a 30th anniversary “Seinfeld” tribute next week, but it’s like NYC pizza vs. any other pizza. Just not the same. The Dodgers’ tribute includes a special “Seinfeld”-themed baseball.
The Mets tribute includes:
• “Seinfeld” trivia hosted by Jerry Seinfeld
• A Jerry Seinfeld co-branded bobblehead
• Actor Larry Thomas, who played The Soup Nazi, will greet fans on the concourse.
The date of the event coincides with the 30th anniversary of the “Seinfeld” pilot. No word on whether George Constanza will also make an appearance. It may depend on how many injured players the Yankees still have in July and whether he’s sleeping under his desk.
