Gilles Muller's incredible gesture for young fan

Luxembourg veteran Gilles Muller has made a young Aussie kid's day with a wonderful gesture after his loss at the Australian Open.

No.10 seed Pablo Carreno Busta outlasted Muller 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-5 7-5 in another gruelling encounter lasting three hours and 18 minutes on Friday.

But despite the disappointment of the loss, Muller showed his class by giving away his racquet as he was walking off Margaret Court Arena.

We often see players give their towels or sweatbands to adoring fans, but you very rarely see them give away their racquets.

Muller spotted a young fan in the first row as he was making his way towards the player's tunnel, before reaching up and handing his racquet to the boy.

The youngster couldn't believe it, breaking into a huge smile and showing off his new possession.

However he was smart enough to quickly hand it to his mum for safekeeping.

Having not progressed beyond the third round in any of his first 14 major campaigns, Carreno_busta has now reached the quarter-finals at last year's French Open, the semis at the US Open and the last 16 at Melbourne Park in his past three slams.

Meanwhile, Kyle Edmund continued to fly the Union Jack at the Australian Open, advancing to the round of 16 after surviving a torrid five-set battle with Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Playing on shadeless show court 2 in temperatures nudging 40 degrees, Edmund prevailed 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 7-5 after three hours and 34 minutes of toil on Friday.
