'Poetic justice': French Open loser slammed by fans

Local hope Kristina Mladenovic has been absolutely blasted by fans after causing controversy with her antics throughout the French Open.

Mladenovic failed to handle the atmosphere in her quarter-final clash with Timea Bacsinszky, who checked into the semi-finals with a 6-4 6-4 win.

CORNET: She wanted to give me a kiss, and I liked it

Chants of "Kiki-Kiki-Kiki" resonated around Court Philippe-Chatrier on Tuesday, but the echoes of that support are all that remain of France's big hope for a French Open champion.

Thirteenth-seed Mladenovic played with tears in her eyes and left the arena in a similar state.

Funnily enough her Round of 16 opponent Garbine Muguruza also left the court in tears after losing to Mladenovic, who used the partisan crowd to crack her opponent.

Mladenovic was criticised for her antics during the match, playing on Muguruza's frailty by firing up her home supporters, resulting in Muguruza breaking down in her post-match press conference.

So with Mladenovic's shock loss, a number of fans took to social media to rejoice:

Mladenovic had high hopes of becoming the first French champion since Mary Pierce in 2000, but never really clicked on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

That hope now falls on Caroline Garcia, who beat compatriot Alize Cornet before ending thiur feud with a touching moment at the net.
