Gael Monfils' ingenious solution to win a point

Gael Monfils' ingenious solution to save a point

French tennis star Gael Monfils is known for his athleticism, and he didn't disappoint in his Indian Wells clash with John Isner.

Having won the first set 6-2 the two seeds were on serve in the second, with the American Isner holding a game point.

Monfils returned a 205km/h Isner serve into the middle before being forced to remain at the baseline as his opponent charged the net.

Sensing Monfils was unbalanced, Isner attempted to direct a slice backhand at the Frenchman's feet - only he failed.

Isner's shot never dropped and Monfils did not want to lose the point by being hit in the stomach, so he did what he knows best.

He jumped. Straight up and right over the ball.

With the crowd breaking out into laughter, Isner turned in frustration and Monfils simply looked ready for the next point.

Monfils went on to win 6-2 6-4 to progress to the round of 16.

The 30-year-old has built up quite the highlight reel in his years on the tour.
