'I thought there was no chance she'd actually agree'

The incredibly lucky fan who managed to score a date with Eugenie Bouchard on Twitter has spoken out about the crazy series of events.

While watching the Super Bowl on Monday, 20-year-old marketing student John Goehrke noticed a Tweet from the Canadian tennis star.

With the Atlanta Falcons leading the New England Patriots 21-3 late in the game, Bouchard wanted to let everyone know she predicted a Falcons victory.

But the game wasn't over, and Goehrke thought he'd try and turn the cocky tweet in his favour, replying 'If Patriots win we go on a date?'

Incredibly, Bouchard agreed, and the Patriots went on to pull off the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history for a remarkable win.

And as it turns out Bouchard is a woman of her word.

"I thought maybe there was a chance she would respond, but I thought there was no chance she'd actually agree to it," Goehrke told the Kansas City star.

"Once the game ended, that's when everything started blowing up.

"I started getting texts from my friends that knew. My Twitter started blowing up. It was the first time I had to start turning my notifications off."

Bouchard confirmed in an interview with TSN that she intends to go ahead with the date.

"It's fun and I'm going to follow through with it, because I want to honour my word," the 22-year-old said.

"I'll fly him out (to a tournament), but besides that he has to be the gentleman and, you know, organise a fun date night."
