'Further up the leg': Federer tiptoes around injury

Roger Federer had the Rod Laver Arena crowd in hysterics when Jim Courier couldn't quite work out where the Swiss Maestro was injured.

After allowing Stan Wawrinka to storm back into their semi-final clash on Thursday night and level the match at two-sets all, Federer left the court for an injury time-out on an upper leg injury.

Federer managed to stave off his opponent to reach his sixth Australian Open final, and was asked about the injury afterwards.

DRAMATIC TURNAROUND: Federer's woeful set leaves commentators stunned

"I've had a leg thing going on for the week and I felt it for about the second game on in the match," he told Courier.

"I never take injury timeouts and Stan already took his so I thought he wouldn't be mad.

"You just hope something works... that physio has got some magic hands going on."

But Courier pressed Federer to further explain what he meant by 'leg thing', and Federer's response was gold.

"Well, if you go off the court that means the treatment if further up the leg," he replied, gesturing to his groin area, the crowd roaring with laughter.

"You don't need to be more specific, that's enough," a bashful Courier said.

As it turns out Federer was merely playing with Courier; he told Swiss television after the match that he's dealing with an adductor problem.

The possibility of a dream Australian Open decider between Federer and old adversary Rafael Nadal remains alive after the Swiss maestro edged countryman Wawrinka in a thrilling five-setter.
