'F***ing embarrasment': Evans blows up at coughing fan

A furious Dan Evans was hit with an audible obscenity violation after abusing a spectator during his win over Bernard Tomic.

Evans branded the spectator a "f***ing embarrassment" after the fan was caught coughing during his serve at a vital stage in the pivotal second set.

Evans remonstrated with the chair umpire before holding his serve for 5-3, only to lose his nerve moments later.

Tomic broke back and conjured two set points at 5-6 on Evans' serve, but was unable to convert as his unseeded rival regained control and a commanding two-sets-to-love lead.

Evans also pushed the boundaries when he walked off court, demanding play be stopped after light rain began falling deep in the third set.

"The line is wet ... the line is wet," he bellowed at the chair umpire, before play was halted for barely five minutes.

He returned to close out the match in a second tiebreaker and book a date on Sunday with 12th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, with a quarter-final spot at stake.
