Incredible Kyrgios wipes opponent off court

Nick Kyrgios has made staggeringly short work of Gastao Elias in their opening round clash at the Australian Open.

The Aussie young gun dispatched his opponent 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in just 85 minutes to move into the second round.

Kyrgios absolutely wiped Elias off the court in the early stages, taking the first set in 19 minutes.

The Aussie reeled off the first five games before Gastao Elias finally got on the board.

It wasn't much different in the second set as Kyrgios raced to a two-set lead in 45 minutes.

At one stage he was taking an average of 13 seconds in between points.

Kyrgios's biggest concern wasn't a knee injury he carried into the season-opening grand slam but a recurrence of nose bleeds that required medical time-out early in the second set.

The 21-year-old winced in pain after receiving treatment from the tournament trainer but showed no ill-effects as he brushed past Portugal's world No.81 for the loss of only five games.

"They put some wood in there," Kyrgios said.

"I've always had a problem with blood noses. I've got bad sinuses, so I get that a lot.

"I don't know what it is but it makes me sneeze. It's okay - it helps and it stops the bleeding."

Nose bleeds aside, Kyrgios revelled in his return to Hisense Arena.

The rapid-fire win was the perfect start for Kyrgios, the 2013 Open boys' champion, 2015 men's quarter-finalist and bonafide title contender in 2017.

He is looking to join one of the most illustrious list of names the sport has seen to end Australia's 39-year wait for a singles champion in Melbourne.

Only 11 players in professional tennis history have snared junior grand slam crowns before graduating as a men's major winner.

And the exclusive club features a veritable who's who of modern-day greats led by Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg and all-time grand slam leader Roger Federer.
