Lindsey Vonn cops backlash from tennis fans over detail in photo with Roger Federer
The Olympic champion prompted backlash from salty tennis fans.
Iconic Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn has edited a popular photo post with Roger Federer after backlash from Novak Djokovic fans. Vonn stunned fans on the weekend when the Olympic gold medallist posted a photo alongside 20-time grand slam tennis champ Federer.
The photo sent fans into a frenzy with Vonn and Federer sharing a friendship for a number of years. However, the Olympic champ admitted she had never taken to the slopes with the tennis legend and posted a video of the two skiing.

“I finally got to ski with my friend Roger… yes, @rogerfederer!” Vonn wrote. “Have to take some time to really reflect on what it this means to me… I have admired Roger as an athlete, philanthropist and incredible champion for so many years.
“Normally, people you look up to always let you down in one way or another, but not Roger. Rog is the epitome of a true sportsman and champion in every sense of the word. We’ve been talking about skiing together for such a long time I wasn’t sure if it would happen…. But here we are; retired, skiing and enjoying life!”
However, in her post, she inadvertently triggered tennis fans when she weighed into the greatest of all time debate in her post. Vonn called Federer the greatest of all time and it certainly stirred up some negative backlash. The debate on who is the greatest tennis player of all time has erupted in recent years with Rafa Nadal and Djokovic passing Federer's grand slam tally.
While Djokovic statistically stands above the other two in the argument, many tennis fans point to a range of reasons for who is the greatest of all time. In the post, Vonn said Federer was her GOAT. Fans - many defending Djokovic - jumped on the post with negative feedback saying Vonn was wrong.
This prompted Vonn to edit the caption. Vonn was accused of dismissing Djokovic's numbers. She then clarified why she changed the post and explained why her friend is her GOAT.
“GOAT or greatest of all time is a subjective title. What makes someone great? Is it statistics? Is it records? Is it impact? Is it character? Is it all of the above? People have differences of opinion and that’s OK. My goat might not be your goat and there will always be a debate but opinions are just that, opinions, and everyone is entitled to them," she wrote.
However, this didn't satisfy many with Vonn once again going back and forth with fans over the comment. Vonn said she wasn't 'forced' to delete the post, but rather felt the negativity from comments took away from the memory with Federer. She hit back at the 'silly' comments and said it was her own personal view.
So if I said he’s my favorite player of all time instead of the greatest player of all time you’d be ok? We could say he’s the classiest of all time or the nicest of all time. What other terms are you “ok” with? Stop being childish. This is silly.

I wasn’t forced, I just didn’t want the negative comments ruining my memory. And the post wasn’t a comparison, it was a tribute to my friend who has made a big impact in my life. Everyone just freaks out when the term goat is used. He can be my goat no matter what other people…

Jannik Sinner hits the slopes with Lindsey Vonn
Federer isn't the only grand slam winner to have taken to the slopes with the world champion. After his maiden grand slam win at the Australian Open, Jannik Sinner had a change to ski with Vonn.
Sinner was a gifted skier when he was young, but admitted he chose tennis because he enjoyed the problem solving. While Vonn was hitting the slopes on the weekend, she managed to make an appearance at the Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
