Aussie tennis enigma Nick Kyrgios was left impressed with his own shot making after an insane return winner in his opening match at the Miami Open.

Kyrgios was returning to action on the ATP Tour after his controversial exit at Indian Wells last week when he lost to Rafa Nadal.

The Aussie was involved in his usual antics during his loss to Nadal at Indian Wells, which even saw him drag actor Ben Stiller into the drama.

However, Kyrgios went on to apologise to a ball kid after a racquet he threw accidentally ricocheted in his direction.

But, Kyrgios moved on from the drama and accepted a wild card into the Miami Open where he faced Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the first round.

And after some frustration with his knee, Kyrgios pushed Mannarino into a first set tie break.

And at 2-1, Kyrgios hit a backhand return winner from far outside the tramlines much to the excitement of the fans.

Kyrgios' reaction said it all when he remained rooted in the position with his mouth wide open in astonishment.

"Oh my goodness me, even Nick Kyrgios can't believe the angle he found there," one commentator said.

"What a reaction, impressed himself," the other commentator added.

While Kyrgios and the commentators were impressed with the 'unbelievable' shot, so was the tennis world.

Many joked Kyrgios' reaction with his mouth wide open in astonishment was 'GIF-like'.

Kyrgios went on to use the momentum, take the tiebreak, and win the match 7-6, 6-3.
