Aussie Jordan Thompson has been slammed for an 'unacceptable' moment involving a ball girl, only moments after American Jenson Brooksby also found himself being criticised for a separate incident.

The tennis world has seen a number of incidents of late that have sparked critics to ask the ATP for a crack down on player behaviour.

Alexander Zverev lashed out at the chair umpire's stand, before Nick Kyrgios caused a stir last week when his racquet ricocheted near a ball kid at the end of his Indian Wells match.

Now, another Aussie, has caused a stir.

Thompson was taking on Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in the second round of the Miami Open and the pair were locked at one set all.

However, in the third set, Thompson was brought forward and failed to return a half-volley.

This enraged the Aussie who picked up the ball and smashed it high into the sky.

However, the incident occurred close to a ball girl who flinched with anticipation.

While the ball didn't come close to the ball girl, her reaction prompted viewers to hit out at Thompson.

Tennis world reacts to ball person incidents

Leading tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg was quick to point out the incident after calling for the ATP to do more with player behaviour.

"Soon after Brooksby, Jordan Thompson launched a hall that left a ball girl ducking out of the way," Rothenberg wrote.

"What is happening in this sport?"

The incident came hours after Brooksby threw his racquet to the back of the court at the same tournament.

A ball kid was forced to jump out of the way as the racquet went towards his legs.

Rothenberg said players needed to stop throwing their racquets due to the danger it could pose if it accidentally hit someone on or near the court.

"Tennis players, PLEASE stop launching projectiles on the court with no regard for the other people on court," he wrote.

"And tennis authorities, PLEASE start taking this seriously so that players get the message. Shouldn’t take an eventual, inevitable grievous injury to do that."

Kyrgios was involved in a controversial incident following his loss to Rafa Nadal in Indian Wells.

The Australian issued an apology after a racquet he smashed into the ground bounced and nearly hit a ball kid following his close fought loss.

But, Kyrgios tracked down the ball kid and offered him a racquet and an apology following the severe backlash received over the incident.

Zverev came under heavy criticism from the tennis world when he repeatedly smashed the umpire's chair with his racquet.

The German was fortunate to only be handed a suspended eight-week ban and placed on probation for the outburst.

Since the incident, a number of players and critics have been urging the ATP to crack down on such incidents to avoid any potential controversy in the future.
