Super Bowl LIX: Eagles Fly, Dominate Chiefs In 40-22 Win; Hurts Named MVP
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX 40-22, and it wasn’t even that close. While the Chiefs tacked on a couple of scores in the fourth quarter, the game was all but over at 40-6 with eight minutes to go. In fact, Eagles players were confident enough to douse head coach Nick Sirianni with Gatorade when the score was 40-14. The victory marks the Eagles’ second Super Bowl win this decade.
The Eagles faced the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago and lost, 38-35. The Eagles’ other Super Bowl win came against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2018. Brady was there for this one, too, calling the game for Fox.

Today’s matchup marked the seventh time the Chiefs have been to the big game and the team’s third appearance in a row. What’s more, if they won, it would technically have made the Patrick Mahomes-led team the first in league history to win three Super Bowls in a row. That was not to be. The Eagles defensive line sacked the usually-elusive Mahomes half-a-dozen times over the course of the game. As a result, Kansas City’s vaunted offense had only 23 yards in the first half.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and rushed for a third. He completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and 72 yards on the ground. That latter stat is the most by a QB in Super Bowl history. Hurts was, appropriately, named Super Bowl MVP.
