Super Bowl 59 uniforms: What Chiefs, Eagles will wear in New Orleans

When it comes to success in the Super Bowl, uniform color has been a pretty good indicator in recent years.

Sixteen of the last 20 Super Bowl winners were wearing their white jerseys en route to a Lombardi Trophy, according to ESPN researcher Evan Kaplan. In the last 10 years, the only teams to win a championship wearing a different color were the teams competing in this year's Super Bowl: the Eagles (in Super Bowl 52) and the Chiefs (in Super Bowls 54 and 58).

On Tuesday, two days after conference championship weekend, the Chiefs announced on social media that they'll wear their white jerseys in Super Bowl 59. Philadelphia will wear its green jerseys, according to Adam Schefter.

Each year, the Super Bowl is played at a neutral site. The "home" team alternates yearly between the AFC and NFC champions. The "home" team – this year, that's the Eagles – gets to decide the jersey they'll wear, while the away team gets to call the coin toss before the game.

Philadelphia elected to wear its green home jerseys for this year's Super Bowl. As the away team, Kansas City will wear its white jerseys, which they usually wear on the road.

The last time the Eagles were in a Super Bowl, two years ago, they wore their green jerseys. They lost to the Chiefs, 38-35. In their most recent Super Bowl appearance before that, they beat the Patriots in their green jerseys in 2018.

The Chiefs wore red (their home color) in their last Super Bowl appearance last year. They won in overtime, 25-22. The last time Kansas City wore white in a Super Bowl was two years ago, in its aforementioned Super Bowl 57 victory against the Eagles.
