GWS Giants star Stephen Coniglio has announced the arrival of a baby girl with wife Rebecca. Stephen and Rebecca both posted a number of photos on social media on Friday to announce the wonderful news.

"Blessed with the arrival of Amira Marietta Coniglio," Rebecca posted alongside three photos of their new daughter. The announcement sparked an outpouring of congratulations from fans and celebrities alike.

Stephen's mother Jane wrote "Love these photos of our princess", while one fan said: “Beautiful girl! Beautiful family! So happy for you guys!!!"

Stephen and Rebecca are one of the glamour couples of the AFL and were married in October last year. It later came to light that their wedding in Sydney played host to some key trade talks that eventually led to Jaeger O'Meara moving from Hawthorn to Fremantle.

O'Meara, who started his career at the Gold Coast Suns, was best man for Coniglio as he tied the knot. A number of GWS players also attended the wedding, as did the Giants' list manager Jason McCartney, who got in touch with O'Meara's manager Tom Petroro the following day.

The Giants thought they had a chance to snare O'Meara considering his connection to Coniglio and other GWS players, but the Dockers had already been in touch regarding O'Meara's availability. While Fremantle list manager David Walls had been told by Hawks counterpart Mark McKenzie that O'Meara wouldn't be available during the trade period, the landscape had changed significantly by the time Coniglio's wedding came around.

McCartney reached out to McKenzie the next day when he learned the Hawks would be putting O'Meara on the trading block, but Hawthorn had already engaged in discussions with Freo. O'Meara, who hails from Perth and owns a house in Cottesloe with partner Tory Packer, was eventually traded to the Dockers in a three-team deal which saw Josh Dunkley move to the Brisbane Lions and Rory Lobb sent to the Western Bulldogs.

Toby Greene and partner also expecting baby

Coniglio's new baby is one of a number of new additions to the GWS family. At the Brownlow Medal ceremony last month, Giants star Toby Greene and partner Georgia Stirton revealed they're also expecting.

The wonderful news comes after Greene was left shattered over the Giants' one-point loss to Collingwood in the preliminary final. The GWS star was in tears in the dressing rooms after the game as he was consoled by Stirton and other family members.

“It’s hard to reflect on the season when you get that close. That one hurts. That one really hurts,” Greene told Channel 7. “It’s a tough change-room at the moment, but we’ll come together. We’ll come back stronger. You put yourself out there, you get that close, that’s what happens.

“It was an awesome year, but once you get this close you want to go on and win it. We felt like we were good enough too, but hats off to Collingwood they were tough tonight. Flip of a coin, really, in the end and it just hurts.”

The Giants' loss proved all the more painful when Collingwood went on to win the flag. The Magpies beat the Lions by just four points in the grand final, claiming their first premiership in 13 years.
