Star jockey's touching hospital message after horror fall
Champion jockey Blake Shinn has released a heartfelt video from his hospital bed, thanking well-wishers for their support after the horror fall that left him with a broken neck.
Frightening vision emerged earlier in the week that showed the moment champion jockey Blake Shinn suffered the injury during a barrier trial at Randwick.
He’s set to be out of action for three to six months after suffering fractures to his C1 and C3 vertebrae on Monday.
The 30-year-old has remained positive, however, and thanked fans for their outpouring of support in a touching video message he posted on social media.
“I’m in good spirits,” Shinn revealed in the video.
“Obviously yesterday was a pretty nasty fall and I’ve been inundated with text messages, phone calls.
“It’s just shown me that I’m involved in a wonderful industry.
“It means a lot to me, it’s really helped me keep my spirits up.”
“I know I haven’t got back to anyone but I thought I’d put this message out and personally thank everyone via my social media.
The multiple Group One-winner was taken to hospital for scans after the fall on Monday complaining of a sore neck and with a suspected concussion.
The winner of the 2008 Melbourne Cup on the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed, Shinn finished second to Brenton Avdulla in last season’s Sydney premiership.
Earlier on Monday morning, Shinn rode triple Group One winner Happy Clapper to an eye-catching fourth in a 1250m-trial.
Shinn was aboard the Pat Webster-trained Happy Clapper in his three Group One wins last season in the Epsom Handicap, Canterbury Stakes and Doncaster Mile.
