Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama Upset After Fans Immediately Sell Jersey He Gave to Young Kid
Wembanyama's sweet moment with the young fan went viral after the Spurs beat the Nets on Dec. 27
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama isn't happy about seeing the jersey he gave to a young fan end up on an resale website.
Wembanyama, 21, reshared the post on X that showed his game-worn jersey up for sale — with bids starting at $10,000 — and reacted with a crying face emoji on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
"So slimy," NBA insider Kevin O'Conner replied to Wembanyama's post. "The jersey swap pic is still legendary tho," he added, referring to the viral moment when the Spurs star swapped his jersey with a tiny fan.
Wembanyama — often referred to by his nickname "Wemby" — gifted his jersey to the young fan on Dec. 27 after the Spurs defeated the Brooklyn Nets. After the tiny recipient gave Wembanyama the jersey he had been wearing, the heartwarming photo of the their jersey swap went viral on social media.

The sale's description even describes the jersey as the one 7-foot-3 Wembanyama gave to the fan on that date, with the Spurs star's stats from the game listed in the title.
"Sometimes, the easiest way to get something is to ask, but it seems as if this simple truth is often forgotten due to the fear of rejection," the jersey's description reads on Goldin's auction website. "Sure, rejection is a possibility, but so too is the possibility of getting exactly what you want."
The description said "such was the case" after San Antonio's win. "Wembanyama, who has swiftly developed a reputation as a man of the people due to positive interactions with fans, immediately stripped this offered San Antonio Spurs City Edition basketball jersey from his back and exchanged it with the young fan, with the two even standing side by side for a quick photo op (with the massive height difference making for an incredible image)."
The French NBA star — and silver medalist after this summer's Paris Olympics — has a reputation for going above and beyond with the young fans who are excited to meet him.
One month before he gifted the now up-for-auction jersey, Wembanyama shared a sweet moment with a boy who wanted his autograph. When Wembanyama saw the boy's excitement, he took off his jersey and gifted it to him.
