Sports hub plan for former quarry set for approval
Plans to transform a former Staffordshire quarry into a new sports hub have been recommended for approval.
Seven pitches, including a 3G pitch, a sports pavilion and stands would be built on the old Uttoxeter Quarry site if East Staffordshire Borough Council gives the go-ahead on Tuesday.
The planning application was submitted by Staffordshire County Football Association (FA) as part of its aim to meet demand for facilities in the area.
The development would also include a 200-space car park with charging points for electric vehicles.
Concerns about the scheme were previously raised by highways officers at Staffordshire County Council.
They objected to the proposal on sustainability grounds and said there were no footpaths or cycle paths to the site.
But a report from East Staffordshire Borough Council's planning department said on balance, the development was in line with the authority's planning policies.
"The proposal provides football pitches where there is an identified need and provides a dedicated facility for football, freeing up other playing pitches in and around Uttoxeter for other sports," the report said.
The sports hub is planned to operate as needed between 09:00 and 23:00 Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 21:00 on Saturday and 08:00 to 19:00 on Sunday.
A decision on the plans is set to be made at a meeting of the council's planning committee on Tuesday.
The development would be the first stage in a wider regeneration of the Aggregate Industries quarry site in Uttoxeter.
