However, on the verge of drawing level, Jones appeared to miss what should be a straight forward shot on the black near the pocket.

The move sparked reaction from Eurosport commentator Joe Johnson.

“It’s a funny old game, isn’t it?” he said.

However, co-commentator Alan McManus thought the miss was up there with the worst he had seen for a professional.

“I’m going to go out on a limb and say that’s the easiest black in the history of the world that I’ve ever seen missed,” McManus said.

Snooker world reacts to huge miss

The commentators weren't the only snooker viewers in shock at the unusual moment.

Plenty of fans were left stunned at the straight forward miss at such an important time in the qualifier.

Fortunately for Jones, Nutcharut missed the next shot and conceded the frame.

Jones went on to take the qualifier 6-2 against the supremely talented Nutcharut.

The pair need to win four rounds of qualifying to become eligible for the biggest tournament in snooker, The Crucible.
