Just five months before the start of the season, San Jose State coach Dave Wojcik has announced his resignation from the program citing personal reasons releated to his father's death.

“This past year has been emotionally challenging for me with the loss of my father. His passing made me evaluate what is important in life and the value of family," Wojcik said in a statement.

"With the considerable needs of my widowed mother as well as my son moving to the East Coast after his high school graduation, I believe it is the appropriate time to resign my position as head men’s basketball coach at San José University."

The Spartans went 32-90 under Wojcik in four seasons and this past year was San Jose State’s most successful season in six years, posting a 14-16 record and tying for eighth place in Mountain West conference.

“This past year has been emotionally challenging for me with the loss of my father. His passing made me evaluate what is important in life and the value of family," Wojcik said in a statement.

Assistant coach Rodney Tention will be the interim head coach during a national search.

“The opportunity to lead the men’s basketball team has been a privilege. I am proud to leave the program positioned for continued success and wish the program and San José State University all the best,” Wojcik added.
