Sam LaPorta injury update: Lions TE hurts ankle against Cardinals
Detroit Lions second-year tight end Sam LaPorta was carted off of the field near the end of the first half of his team's Week 3 clash with the Arizona Cardinals.
LaPorta appeared to get rolled up on during a "hook and ladder" trick play that led to a touchdown for running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The tight end was blocking a defender downfield when Cardinals safety Budda Baker attempted to make a tackle and ended up colliding with LaPorta.

The 23-year-old initially walked off of the field under his own power but took a cart to the locker room as final seconds of the half ticked away. He returned to the field at the start of the second half but eventually limped back off of the field.
Detroit has declared LaPorta "questionable" for the remainder of the game with an ankle injury.

Sam LaPorta -
Concern for moderate grade Right inversion ankle sprain.
Has his right foot/toes caught under the defender and ankle rolled inward.
Dependent on pain/swelling, he may not be able to return. We’ll see if they tape him up and try to give it a go after half. pic.twitter.com/KGCNkXL0mS— Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) September 22, 2024
During the third quarter, the Lions announced that the tight end is questionable to return with an ankle injury.
