Dragons attempting two lure Kurtley Beale to the NRL: report

St George Illawarra are reportedly set to make an offer to lure wayward Wallabies star Kurtley Beale to the NRL.

Beale's future in rugby is under a cloud after he was sent home this week for punching Melbourne Rebels teammates Gareth Delve and Cooper Vuna during a drunken altercation on tour in South Africa.

News Ltd is reporting that should Beale have his contract with the Australian Rugby Union torn up, the Dragons could try to lure him to rugby league.

The Dragons have been lifeless in attack during their winless start to the season and appear set to miss out on signing Josh Dugan, with Brisbane the favourites to get former Canberra fullback.

Beale played rugby league as a junior and has previously expressed a desire to switch to the 13-a-side code.

"It's always lingering in the back of my mind,'' Beale said of playing rugby league in an interview in January.

"I'm a massive fan of rugby league and I played it all my junior career and I'm always switching channels to watch it on the weekend. Hopefully later on, in the years to come, I will be able to put my hand up and have a crack at it."

Former Australian rugby league captain Brad Fittler was in no doubt the 24-year-old could make an impact in the NRL.

"He comes from rugby league, he's a pretty good athlete, he'd be good," Fittler said of Beale.

"He'd be good enough at most sports if he started it young enough."

News Ltd is reporting Beale's future in rugby could be determined as early as next week.
