Excitable sevens captain hijacks interview to sing to daughter

Everybody loves an athlete who doesn't take themselves too seriously.

North Harbour's rugby sevens captain might just top the pile.

Luke Hamilton, who is 'not like your typical sevens player ... I'm pushing 40', showed off some dance moves after scoring a try in his side's 19-12 win over South Canterbury at the National Sevens, Bay of Plenty in Rotorua.

Interviewed by Sky Sports at the end of the match, Hamilton went a step further.

"Mate, those moves you showed, they're awful," said the unhappy interviewer.

"Oh, mate, they used to be a wee bit better. I used to be lightning, now I'm not quite lightning," Hamilton replied.

Hamilton then asked for the cameraman to pay attention to show off photos of his two kids.

The interviewer tried to cut it short: "Mate, this ain't X-Factor."

But Hamilton went on with a nice message for his daughter.

"Yesterday she was a little bit disappointed because Daddy couldn't do her a little dance. So Kaylee, I've got something a little bit more special for you, and this is for you."

Cue Hamilton's loving rendition of Barney the Dinosaur, but once again the interviewer.

"Thank you, I think?"

Mate, lighten up, this is rugby sevens.
