Rovers 'positive' despite 'tough' week - Horseman
Bristol Rovers' players have "responded well" in training despite a "tough" week without a manager ahead of their game against Wrexham this weekend.
The struggling League One club sacked manager Matt Taylor on Monday after just over a year in charge.
They have won only six out of 19 league games this season and last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Birmingham City was their third straight loss.
"It's always tough when managers change, unfortunately it's part of the game. I think probably what the lads can do, it can either go one of two ways," interim boss David Horseman told BBC Radio Bristol.
"They lose their energy or refocus, getting ready to impress the next person. Luckily enough the last few days they've probably gone the more positive way.
"Also a game against Wrexham is one to look forward to. Since the weekend it's obviously been a tough time but the lads have responded really well and we've had a good week's training so far."
The Gas are currently 20th in the table, hovering above the relegation zone by two points and face a Wrexham side who are third in the league and unbeaten in their last five matches.
Their tally of 17 goals is the joint second lowest in the league and trying to start changing that has been the focus of Horseman's training sessions this week.
Although he added he was limited in what he could do with the hope of a new manager being appointed soon.
"We're not creating any chances - not only the volume and quality," Horseman added.
"We are going to cross the ball a lot, that's the aim, that's what's been told, shots from outside the box. At the moment we need to create the volume and then try and refine to find a way of creating really good XG based chances. And the boys have really embraced it.
"Once they cross the white line they've got to make good decisions, they've got to be technically better than we've been in recent weeks and if we put that right there's good players in our dressing room."
Horseman, a first-team coach at the club, moved to the Mem this summer to join Taylor's coaching staff and said he was "really grateful" to the former manager and that he hoped to remain after a new appointment was made.
He said the players need the fans "more" this weekend than any other stage of the season, when they take on heavyweights Wrexham on Saturday in the 12:30 GMT kick-off.
"We've got to give the fans something back. I'm a Bristolian and I keep saying, there's got to be tactics and there's got to be a style of play but there's got to be a bit of fight and passion and energy," he said.
"Too many times we haven't brought that."
