Sprinter wearing hijab creates history for Saudi Arabia

Sprinter Kariman Abuljadayel has made history, becoming the first woman to compete for Saudi Arabia in the 100m sprint.

Abuljadayel, 22, finished seventh in her preliminary heat, and stood out from the crowd wearing a full-body kit and hijab.

Unfortunately for the history maker, she was unable to qualify for the final event, however she won the admiration of many thousands around the world for her efforts.

Later in the day, Afghanistan's Kamia Yousufi became the second woman to compete in a hijab and full body suit on the day, finishing in last place in her heat.

Abuljadayel follows Sarah Attar, who was the first female track athlete to compete for Saudi Arabia in the Olympics in 2012, and was also the first to compete in a hijab.
