They were watching the race live from school and went BESERK as he hit the wall.

1:11pm SILVER MEDAL Aussies finished second in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay

What a swim from our women.

17-year-old Tamsin Cool anchored the relay against the mighty Katie Ledecky and swam superbly to finish behind the strong American team.

A gold and two silvers in the pool for Day 5? We will take that every day of the week.

Team USA star Paul George has ripped into the Aussies' style of play after their clash today.

'This game kind of got out of hand with the chippy, physical play,' he said.

12:12pn GOLD MEDAL Kyle Chalmers claims gold in 100m freestyle

Kyle Chalmers, just 18yo, has one the 100m freestyle gold medal.

He was nowhere with 20m to go but stormed home to take the honours.

What a swim from Maddie Groves, beaten by just 0.03 seconds.

11:26am Cate Campbell qualifies fastest for 100m freestyle

Cate Campbell looked like she was cruising as she hit the wall in the 100m freestyle semi-final.

She still broke the Olympic record along the way.

Her sister Bronte finished second in the first semi as well.

11:22am Luc Longley gets the meme treatment from US fans
US basketball fans had a soft spot for Aussie Luc Longley when he was at the Bulls collecting rings with Michael Jordan.

When he was spotted on the bench with the Boomers this morning as an assistant coach looking slightly different US hoops fans lit up the internet with a load of lookalike memes.

11:00am Kookaburras break their drought
The Aussie men's hockey team have beaten Great Britain 2-1, ending a goalless drought of over 300 hours in the process.

9:49am Boomers go down to Team USA
The Boomers pushed Team USA the whole way and actually lead for large parts of the game but went down 98-88.

The match actually felt closer than that and the Boomers will take a lot of positives from the result.

It was just a pool game and they keep their dream of an Olympic medal alive.

9:15am SBW got lost on the way to hospital
This is not what Sonny Bill needed after his Olympic dreams were shattered.

According to his sister his ambulance got lost on the way to hospital.

8:58am Independent Olympian makes controversial statement against IOC
Kuwaiti trap shooter Fehaid Al-Deehani became the first Independent Olympic Athlete to capture a gold medal.

He took a cheeky stab at the IOC along the way.

8:50am Boomers are BEATING Team USA
We won't get ahead of ourselves just yet but the Boomers are looking fantastic.

They lead the mighty US 54-49 at half time.

It is the first time Team USA have been behind at the big break since 2004.

It's tight early in the second period, the USA ahead by just one 32-31 with eight to play in the second quarter.

Australian swimming champion Alicia Coutts gave one of the most heartfelt and emotional poolside speeches after her final Olympic swim yesterday.

In it she paid tribute to her dad who died when she was just seven.

She did it with the class and humility of the true champion she is.

7:20am Fiji on course for their first medal
Fiji move into the semi-finals of the sevens after beating New Zealand.

Fiji have never won a medal at the Olympics but are favourite to take the gold after this win.

7:10am Hockeyroos finally off and running
It's taken a while but our Hockeyroos finally got their Olympics campaign off the ground, with a 6-1 thrashing of India.
