Fencer's phone flies from pocket during competition

This is taking the mobile phone addiction a step too far surely.

You are competing at the Olympics for god’s sake.

Yes, we all walk out the door tapping our pockets whispering, ‘wallet, keys, phone,’ but there is just no need for it here.

Not when you are walking onto the fencing mat in Rio, striving for gold, already a multiple world championship medal winner. Get your head in the game, boy.

But Frenchman Enzo Lefort did not.

He was fighting German Peter Joppich.

It was fast, it was frantic, foils were slashing and slicing and colliding.

And then all of a sudden Lefort’s phone flies out of his pocket and lands on the mat.

It has to be one of the biggest WTF moments of the Olympics thus far.

An embarrassed Lefort picked up his phone, surely checking the screen was not cracked, before handing it over to his coach.

Why did he have it?
