Riewoldt 'lucky not to break his wrist' in scary fall
Richmond veteran Jack Riewoldt has sent a massive scare through his club after a nasty looking incident in Thursday night’s match against Collingwood.
A week after fellow veteran Alex Rance suffered a season-ending ACL injury, Riewoldt was seen clutching worryingly at his wrist after a scary fall early in the second quarter of the MCG blockbuster.
The Tigers star launched himself into the air for what could well have been an early contender for ‘mark of the year’.
However, the attempted mark went horribly wrong when he bounced off the Collingwood defender and went crashing into the turf.
Riewoldt hit the ground hard as he landed on his side, grabbing at his right wrist immediately after dropping the ball.
Richmond teammate Jayden Short made the most of Riewoldt’s missed chance after taking a follow-up mark on the boundary line, before snapping a clever goal for the Tigers.
However, it was the state of his star teammate that had fans talking on social media, with many initially fearing that he’d broken his wrist.
That was scary. I full had a Gordon Hayward flashback moment when Riewoldt landed on his wrist. Thought he had broken it originally 😫

Collingwood enjoyed a better opening half than the Tigers and looked to be heading into the main break with a two-goal buffer.

However, Shane Edwards kicked a goal after the siren to send Richmond fans wild and leave the Tigers trailing by just six points at halftime.
Jordan De Goey starred with five goals as Collingwood ran over the top of Richmond in the second half, scoring an emphatic 44-point win.
The Tigers were eventually brought undone by the clinical Magpies, who kicked five goals to one in the last quarter of the 17.8 (110) to 10.6 (66) win in front of 70,699 fans.
