'Ridiculous shot': Glenn Maxwell slammed as Aussies left reeling from West Indies barrage
Glenn Maxwell has been called out for a horror shot when the Australians were already reeling at 3-38 against the West Indies in their second match of the 2019 World Cup.
The West Indies pacemen treated Aaron Finch, David Warner and Usman Khawaja to a masterclass in short pitched bowling at Trent Bridge.
But Maxwell came under scrutiny on social media for playing at a bouncer when the Aussies were already facing a collapse at 3-38.
Sheldon Cottrell steamed in after already dismissing Warner and bowled a bouncer to Maxwell on his second ball.
Maxwell slashed at the shot, which went straight up and right into the gloves of Shai Hope.
“That shot was never on,” the commentator said.
Many on social media were critical of the shot considering the three quick wickets that fell right before Maxwell.
Glenn Maxwell being Glenn Maxwell. Got so much time for that ridiculous shot. What a guy. #wivaus #AUSvWI #CWC19

Glenn Maxwell lasts just two balls before his wicket is taken. Foolish effort from him. Shai Hope with another catch. What is going on with Australia? 38-4 after 7.4. #CWC19
