Teen spinner's bizarre 'zig zag' run-up fools Chris Lynn

Teenage spinner Rahul Chahar has bamboozled Australian star Chris Lynn after following a unique 'zig zag' run-up with a tight leg break.

Lynn and the Kolkata Knight Riders were cruising at 0-96 when the 19-year-old Mumbai Indians spinner tried something new for his ninth delivery.

Belted for 20 runs off his first eight balls, Chahar's strategy worked.

The bowler ran between the umpire and the stumps then jagged himself back towards the middle to send down a leg break.

The delivery seemed to catch Lynn, who waited before finding the line, off guard as he could only belt it up in the air.

Evin Lewis took the catch to dismiss the Australian batsman for 54 runs but Chahar's run-up was the talk of the wicket.

When Lynn smacked the ball, the commentators thought the bowler was fooling himself for thinking it worked.

"Doesn't matter where you come running in from... or does it?! Yes it does!" one said.

Former Australian paceman Brett Lee was impressed with Chahar's spin.

"Look at the revolutions on the ball," he said.

Unfortunately for Chahar, his ingenuinity didn't pay off every time he tried.

He almost had Andre Russell caught for one after zig-zagging his run-up again.

Russell, however, went on to score 80 runs – including eight sixes – to lift Kolkata to 2-232 off their 20 overs.

Chahar was smacked for 13 and 20 off his final two overs and finished with figures of 1-54.

Mumbai could manage just 7-198 in return, though Hardik Pandya gave it a red-hot crack.

The No.6 batsman blasted nine sixes of his own before falling for 91 off 34 balls at the end of the 18th over.
