Flying Artie turned the tables on his Blue Diamond conqueror in the $3.5 million scamper at Rosehill, but could manage only third and with Extreme Choice eighth.

The latter lost all chance when slowly away, and then hampered throughout the 1200-metre event, and Price confirmed the son of Not A Single Doubt would not start again as a two-year-old.

“He was a neck slow and then got pressure from the outside in and the inside out, which had him on the wrong leg for the first half of the race,” Price said.

“The whole race was just a disaster.”

“He pulled up OK but he’ll go straight to the paddock and be set for the Coolmore in the spring.”

In contrast to his stablemate, Flying Artie began well from barrier four and enjoyed a sweet run just behind the speed but was not match for winner Capitalist and Yankee Rose.

“Flying Artie came through the race well enough to suggest he could run in the Sires’,” Price said. “But a final decision on that will be made in the next seven to 10 days.””

The Sires’ will be run on Saturday 2 April, the same day as the Group 1 ATC Australian Derby, for which Price has the raging favourite Tarzino.

The Victoria Derby winner banked his second Group 1 success when a strong winner of the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Price said the son of Tavistock will only be better once he stretches out to the 2400m of the Derby.

“Tarzino came through his race fantastic and he’ll only improve,” he said. “Craig (Newitt) said he wanted to keep going through the line.”
