Prime Minister sledges NRL great after crashing post-game interview
Scott Morrison was in fine form on Thursday night after his Cronulla Sharks came back to stun the Panthers.
Penrith’s sorry start to the season sunk to a new low after blowing a 14-0 lead in a demoralising four-point loss.
The Panthers looked in control until Bronson Xerri lit up PointsBet Stadium with a 65-metre run for the home side’s first points in the 49th minute.
The rookie’s first career four-pointer kickstarted a 26-minute, four-try blitz, including a penalty try to Chad Townsend, to claim a stirring 24-20 victory.
Sharks fans in attendance were absolutely delirious, including the Prime Minister – Cronulla’s No.1 ticket holder.
Mr Morrison crashed a Channel Nine post-game interview with Paul Gallen to gush about his boys.
He then told Gallen he was his favourite player of all time.
“The Shire loves you mate. We’re so proud of what you’ve been able to achieve. How good were the boys?” Morrison said.
“They were a long way back but you can never write off the Sharks.”
‘Not great for you’
But Morrison wasn’t done there, joining the Triple M radio team afterwards.
It was there that he delivered a stinging sledge to Penrith great Mark Geyer.
“Mark, not a great night for you mate,” Morrison said.
He then predicted a Cronulla-like comeback for the Liberals in the upcoming Federal Election, who are currently trailing Labor in the polls.
“We’re coming from behind just like our boys tonight,” he said.
As well as the post-game antics, Morrison was also seen dancing in the crowd as the Sharks staged their unthinkable comeback.
So a good night for the PM all round.
