Premier League grant helps fund £1.2m project
A town in Kent is set to benefit from a £1.2m investment into local grassroots sports facilities following a grant from the Premier League and The FA.
Planning permission has been given for the creation of an all-weather artificial grass pitch with floodlighting, as well as the refurbishment of two netball courts, within the grounds of Dover Christ Church Academy (DCCA).
The facilities will be used by DCCA students during the day and made available for local community teams during evenings, weekends and holidays, Dover District Council (DDC) said.
The £942,281 grant, which also came from the government's Football Foundation, helped fund the project.
The project has also been jointly funded by the council, Turner Schools and local clubs including Dover Rangers, Whitfield Juniors FC and Dover Athletic Youth FC.
Charlotte Zosseder, DDC's portfolio holder for community and corporate property, said: "It has been proven how important regular team sports is for the mental health of our young people, and these floodlit facilities will ensure that they can play their favourite sports throughout the winter months too."
Work on the facilities is expected to begin in the spring.
