'RIP to my future kids': Pole-vaulter's sickening mishap

It’s every pole-vaulter’s worst nightmare.

A routine practice run went horribly wrong for 21-year-old Zach McWhorter, a college athlete for Brigham Young University in Utah.

After easily clearing the bar, McWhorter’s pole didn’t fall safely to the ground beside him - instead, it fell directly beneath him.

Unfortunately for the university student, the pole caught him right between the legs - a moment the 21-year-old was kind enough to loop a few times on the social media app.

“That one time the pole went through my n**s...18 stitches later... RIP to my future kids,” McWhorter captioned his video.

In a follow-up interview with Buzzfeed, McWhorter said his coach, who is his father and also, conveniently, a urologist, was able to quickly get him to hospital.

His injuries though, were more on the graphic side of things.

McWhorter said he needed 18 stitches to repair his scrotum.

“I could see right into my scrotum,” he told Buzzfeed.

“Immediately after the incident, we got in his car and drove to the hospital and he sewed me up. It required 18 stitches.

“Fortunately, as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with my testicles - just a scar. One day, we’ll find out if they function or not.”

A picture of McWhorter’s punctured shorts also emerged.

The 21-year-old said he’d learned an important lesson from the episode - ‘don’t free-ball’ and ‘always put a cap on the end of the pole’.

Sage advice.
