Pogba's stirring pre-game speech that led France to glory

Footage has come to light of a Paul Pogba pre-game speech that inspired France to victory at the World Cup.

Pogba was one of the key figures of France’s success in the tournament, and his emergence as a leader on the pitch in midfield was one of the key reasons behind their World Cup success.

The final will be remembered for, amongst other things, Kylian Mbappe’s goal, but Pogba’s own strike was preceded by his own pass of the tournament.

It was not just his on-pitch contributions that helped his team, though, as Pogba told the French press of his speech before the World Cup final:

“I told everyone that we are 90 minutes away from realising our dream, we are 90 minutes from entering into history books for life, and we were 90 minutes away from making France rock, even children and their children will know about this.

“So guys, we can do this. There are two teams and a cup and we are not going to let another team take this cup. That is all I told them.”

And now there is proof that Pogba’s stirring words were not a one-off; he had done something similar during France’s game against Uruguay, at the half-time interval, saying:

“It’s done! There’s no turning back. It’s done.

“We’re going to continue. We’re going to go until the end. We will meet on the 15th of July [the World Cup final].”

France were already 1-0 up against Uruguay, but Pogba’s friend and teammate Antoine Griezmann added a second to secure victory.

Belgium were France’s next opponents, and another win for Pogba and co set up a final against Croatia. Perhaps Pogba be will offering something similar at Old Trafford in the coming Manchester United season.
