Ireland captain Caelan Doris admits the team has been given a "second chance" by head coach Andy Farrell after a flat performance in last week's defeat by New Zealand.
Farrell has made just one change for the Argentina game on Friday with Robbie Henshaw replacing Bundee Aki and the coach admitted some players are "lucky enough" to have been retained in the line-up.
Doris, who expressed dissatisfaction with his own performance last week, said he wants Ireland to show more "edge, physicality and intent" against the Pumas, who have never won on Irish soil.
"There's competition, there's a lot of people who want to wear the jerseys so there's a bit of pressure to perform there, but excitement and opportunity too," said Doris, 26.
"That's the underlying thing."
The Leinster back row, appointed captain before the Autumn Nations Series, added: "I think the way it's framed from Faz [Farrell] and the coaches in quite a positive way.
"There's expectation coming from ourselves and the group and coming from what we see in training and the plan we have. It feels like positive pressure to a lot of guys, to myself."
Having trailed New Zealand 9-6 at half-time last week, Ireland started the second half strongly with a Josh van der Flier try giving them a narrow advantage.
However, instead of pushing on, they conceded a series of penalties before Will Jordan's try put the game beyond their reach.
And Doris insists Ireland must improve their in-game management.
"We did come together where possible and take a breath, but acknowledging what's gone on and what the trends are in-game is something I need to be better at and as a group we need to be better at.
"We probably got a little bit desperate given the nature [of the game], we were chasing a little bit, and the penalties probably came from desperation.
"Coming together and getting back to neutral would have been a help."
Argentina have 'gone to another level'
Ireland thumped Argentina when the sides last met in Dublin in 2021 with Doris one of six Irish try-scorers in a 53-7 win.
But given the Pumas' impressive first year under former Leinster player and coach Felipe Contepomi, which has included a win over world champions South Africa and victory over the All Blacks in Wellington, Doris is expecting a much tighter encounter this time around.
"We know that Argentina are a proper team and a proper test," said Doris, who worked with Contepomi at Leinster.
"They've shown that over the year with some of their wins and their development under Felipe.
"They've obviously been a top-class team for a number of years having been in three of the last four World Cup semi-finals but I think they've gone to another level under Felipe."
