Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg speaks on Tottenham future after deadline day transfer drama

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is refusing to give up hope on resurrecting his career at Tottenham.

The midfielder had been expected to leave Spurs during the summer transfer window in pursuit of a new challenge amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

Nothing on that front, however, materialised until the dying embers of the window when Fulham emerged as potential suitors.

Spurs were keen on a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher on Deadline Day but the deal collapsed when Hojbjerg rejected interest from Craven Cottage, thereby keeping Bayern Munich target Joao Palhinha in south west London.

Hojbjerg was a key figure under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte but has been an early victim of Ange Postecoglou’s rapid fire rebuild this season, having yet to start a game.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have been the starting options under Postecoglou, while Rodrigo Bentancur could soon return following a long-term injury.

Still, Hojbjerg insists he is prepared to fight for his place.

“In the end, the most important thing, and I have made this very clear to the coach and the club, is that I have to show my best side and deserve what I get from playing time,” he told Danish outlet Bold.

“Right now I am not among the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to show my best side if the coach points to me.”
