Phil Gould and Paul Gallen hit out at 'nervous' Maroons amid Gorden Tallis Origin remarks
The Queensland great has been put in his place over the Origin drama.
Butt out, Queensland. Former NSW captain Paul Gallen and ex-coach Phil Gould have accused the Maroons of hypocrisy and told them to mind their own business over James Tedesco's late inclusion in the Blues side for State of Origin Game I. There were rumblings north of the border the move would unsettle NSW because Tedesco was originally overlooked by coach Michael Maguire in favour of Penrith's Dylan Edwards, who was later forced to withdraw through injury.
Queensland legend Gorden Tallis led the charge, saying Tedesco would have a "feeling of embarrassment" at being recalled and would be "disappointed and pissed off". Speaking on 100% Footy on Monday night, Gallen let rip.
"When someone (from NSW) has an opinion on the Queensland team, they carry on how we disrespect them," he said. "But it's okay for them to have an opinion on James Tedesco and how he got dropped and is now back in the side.
"I thought that was poor. I love this time of the year but find it really frustrating how Queenslanders carry on (about) how we can be disrespectful yet it's okay for them to comment on us. I tell you what I do sense. I sense a bit of nervousness from the Queenslanders.
"Daly Cherry-Evans has come out and said he's nervous. And for a couple of their officials and a former great (Tallis) to come out and say they have an opinion on it (further underlines it)."
Phil Gould's swipe after furore around James Tedesco move
Gould, NSW's most successful Origin coach, was incensed there was any suggestion the Blues had received an advantage by bringing Tedesco in late. The move had to be green-lighted by the ARL Commission because the Roosters veteran was not named in the original 20-man squad.

Gould said: "There's no rule about who can come in and who can't come out when you name your squad. You've just got to get there Wednesday night with a team – you might change it three times between now and them.
"They (Queensland) do it all the time. Why wouldn't they (the ARLC) approve it? Why would you need to ask permission anyway?"
Speaking about the impact the late call-up will have on Tedesco, Gallen declared: "He is a team-first man. He's played 22 games for the Blues and the fact he's not captain anymore... I saw a story about how happy he is for (new captain) Jake Trbojevic and how much he's going to support him. He is the perfect bloke for this to happen to. He will slot straight in."
