Nevill makes perfect Ashes case with brilliant catch

Peter Nevill continues to push his case for a Test recall, taking a great grab to dismiss Joe Burns in the Sheffield Shield.

Nevill appears to be the front-runner to take the gloves for this summer's Ashes series, with incumbent Matthew Wade in pretty rough form.

Youngsters Alex Carey and Cameron Bancroft have also been mentioned, but Nevill showed why he is the best gloveman in the country with a fine catch for NSW on Monday.

Nevill dived low and to his left after Burns got an inside edge off a Doug Bolinger delivery, snaring the catch with two hands.

The grab wasn't overly difficult, but it's the kind of dismissal you need your Test keeper to take 10 times out of 10.

Wade's Ashes hopes have been left in tatters after he was dismissed for another low score during Tasmania's clash with Victoria.

The incumbent Test keeper was on five when he played a pull shot to a Peter Siddle delivery which he bottom-edged onto his stumps just after lunch on day one at the MCG.

Wade, who has averaged 20 since his Test recall last summer, is facing a tough task to retain his spot when the Ashes squad is named on Friday.

Under-pressure Test opener Matt Renshaw also fell cheaply early in Queensland's top of the table clash with NSW in Brisbane.

Renshaw was also caught behind by Nevill off Trent Copeland for just 16 off 38 balls to leave the Bulls reeling.

His failure will only add to the speculation over his Test spot before the Australian squad is named on Friday for the Ashes opener at the Gabba from November 23.
