'Go f*** yourself': Sam Burgess' call to NRL journo revealed
NRL reporter Paul Kent has revealed the explicit phone call he received from Souths forward Sam Burgess during the 2018 final series.
Kent was speaking on The Matty Johns Podcast about the time Burgess called him at 6am to vent his frustration, which ended with the forward blasting him.
“I had a big one last year with Sam Burgess when all the drama was happening at Souths at finals time,” Kent said.
The pair have since repaired their relationship, but hadn’t spoken since the English forward appeared as a guest on the show.
“When he came in for the podcast he said I’ve just seen Kenty upstairs and had a bit of a yarn to him,” Matthew Johns said.
“Was that the first time you have chatted since then?”
“What happened is we had a blue and he rang me and he ended it pretty quickly with a quick statement,” Kent recounted.
“Go f*** yourself?” Johns said.
“Something like that,” Kent responded.

“He rang me back five minutes later and went again. Doubled up and that ended up with me telling him to go f*** himself.
“Then he rang back a third time and said: ‘look mate, I shouldn’t have said what I said I’m sorry.
“I said: ‘Sam I’m a big boy and I don’t care, mate’. I said: ‘honestly it does not worry me and it is not an issue with me and it won’t be going forward.”
Kent said he didn’t hold a grudge over the matter and Burgess had attempted to clear the air in person at the pre-season Fox League launch and before the Matty Johns Podcast.
The Souths forward recently made headlines after he got off with a fine for his hit that concussed Matt Moylan last weekend despite the Sharks fullback being ruled out this Friday.
