Patrick Mahomes stats today: Chiefs QB's tale of two halves in Super Bowl 59
Patrick Mahomes entered his Super Bowl 59 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles hoping to become the first quarterback in NFL history to win four Super Bowls before turning 30.
Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback couldn't lead his team to a third consecutive victory on the NFL's biggest stage.
Mahomes struggled mightily in the first half and was on pace to endure one of the worst performances of his career on the NFL's biggest stages. He managed to turn his numbers from poor to respectable in garbage time during the 18-point blowout, but his rocky outing dropped him to 3-2 overall in Super Bowl.
Here's a look at Mahomes' stats from Super Bowl 59 and how they compare to his other performances in the Big Game.
Patrick Mahomes stats today
Mahomes' final numbers are indicative of a player who had a solid performance. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the defeat. He also ran for a team-high 25 yards on four carries but lost a fumble.
However, Mahomes' stats were a tale of two halves, as he struggled badly in the first half of the contest before padding them late in the big-time blowout. Below is a full breakdown of his performance.
Patrick Mahomes stats before halftime
Mahomes struggled badly in the first half of Super Bowl 59, as Philadelphia's pass rush did a great job of making him uncomfortable. He completed just 6 of 14 passes for 33 yards but had two interceptions that led to 14 Eagles points.
As a result, Mahomes quarterback had just a 10.7 passer rating at halftime. That put him on pace for the fourth-worst passer rating by a Super Bowl starter.
Mahomes' interceptions were particularly back-breaking, especially the first one. That same the veteran quarterback throw a pass back across his body directly to cornerback Cooper DeJean. The 22-year-old rookie returned the errant throw 38 yards for a touchdown that gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead.

Mahomes' second interception came with him deep in his own territory. He was looking for Hollywood Brown over the middle of the field but had a lineman pushed back into him, causing the throw to fall short and float into Zack Baun's hands.

The Eagles were able to score shortly after Baun's pick, which allowed Philadelphia to build a 24-0 halftime lead. At that point, Mahomes and Co. searched out an answer for the Eagles' pass rush and a way back into the game.

The Chiefs never found a way to make Super Bowl 59 competitive, and Mahomes struggled against the Eagles' pass rush in the second half, as Philadelphia racked up six sacks during the contest.
But after the Eagles built a massive, 34-0 lead, Kansas City was able to move the ball a bit more against Philadelphia's defense. That allowed Mahomes to avoid ignominious history by completing 15 of 18 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns in the second half.
Mahomes started to get going late in the third quarter, when he hit Xavier Worthy with a couple of downfield shot and got the Chiefs on the board for the first time.

But most of Mahomes' damage following that score came on the Chiefs' final two offensive drives of the game. The Eagles had build a 40-6 lead with about 8 minutes left in regulation before Mahomes led a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a DeAndre Hopkins touchdown with 2:54 left in regulation.
The Chiefs got the ball back one more time after the 2-minute warning, trailing by 26. Mahomes launched another deep pass to Worthy to put another dent in the score.

Still, it's worth noting that most of Mahomes' production came after the game had already, effectively, been decided. And without the win, he won't take much solace in posting a respectable passer rating in this contest.
