Patrick Mahomes overcomes nasty scare to deliver 'insane' Super Bowl win
The remarkable feat from the Kansas City Chiefs superstar has left Super Bowl fans in disbelief.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has left NFL fans in disbelief after overcoming a nasty injury to complete a stunning come-from-behind win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes came limping off the field in the first half, only to return in the second half to inspire his side to a thrilling 38-35 win and claim the MVP trophy for a second time.
Mahomes came into the contest with a suspect right ankle and appeared to suffer more damage to it after a tackle from Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards late in the first half. This year's league MVP sustained a high ankle sprain against Jacksonville in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs when a Jaguars defender landed on him. He received treatment the following week and limped his way through an AFC title win over Cincinnati.

Mahomes had insisted in the lead-up to the NFL decider that his ankle was feeling better than it did before the Bengals game. He was moving around on it well in the Super Bowl, scrambling for a big gain early and buying time to make throws. He played a major part in his side's first score after the Eagles drew first blood.
Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts got the Eagles off to a superb start after scrambling over for the game's first touchdown. The Chiefs hit back through the lethal duo of Mahomes and Travis Kelce, with the Kansas City quarterback finding his tight end for a superb 18-yard touchdown.
Hurts put the Eagles back in front after finding his star wide receiver A.J. Brown for an incredible 45-yard score. However, the Chiefs once again got things back on level terms after Hurts was caught in possession and linebacker Nick Bolton scooped up the fumble on the 45 yard line to race away for a defensive touchdown.
Hurts once again put his stamp on proceedings before halftime after catching the Chiefs' defence napping for his side's third touchdown of the game. Chants of "MVP" rang out from the stands as the Philly star became the first quarterback with multiple rushing touchdowns in a Super Bowl since 1986. Jake Elliott then added a field goal right on halftime to give Philly a 10-point lead.
NFL fans hold their breath after Patrick Mahomes incident
Before halftime, there was considerable concern for Mahomes when the Chiefs QB was trying to evade pressure on third down. Edwards tracked him down from behind and spun him to the ground by the ankle.

The league's MVP got up gingerly from the tackle, before limping his way to the sideline. Close-up shots of Mahomes showed the Chiefs star wincing in pain as he made his way back to the bench, where he looked to be in a fair bit of discomfort.
Replays of the tackle on Mahomes showed his troublesome right ankle bent back sideways, before he lay on the turf in agony. Fans immediately took to social media in reaction to the injury, with many amazed he was able to come out and play through the pain in the second half.

Chiefs backup Chad Henne, who led a 12-play, 98-yard touchdown drive on his only series against the Bengals, was seen warming up on the Kansas City sideline but after some treatment at halftime, Mahomes was able to take the field for the start of the second half. His impact was almost immediate.
M ahomes led the Chiefs on a 75-yard drive at the start of the second half which ultimately led to a touchdown. Running back Isiah Pacheco found a gap in the Eagles defensive line as he scooted over to help reduce the deficit to just three points.

The Chiefs thought they'd grabbed the lead moments later, only to be denied by a controversial call when Miles Sanders was hit and fumbled the ball as he appeared to catch a pass. The Chiefs capitalised on the fumble to race into the end zone, however, officials overturned the call after they suggested Sanders never had control of the ball.
Philly extended their advantage to six points after taking another field goal opportunity, before Kansas City turned the match on its head. Mahomes found Kadarius Toney wide open for the easiest of touchdowns, before the Chiefs speedster brought it back 64-yards off the kick return to put Kansas City back in the red zone.
Toney's sensational run was the longest kick return in Super Bowl history and it set up Skyy Moore to capitalise moments later with a four-yard touchdown to extend the Chiefs' advantage. Kansas City added the extra point to take a 35-27 lead into the final stretch.

The sea-sawing tussle took another dramatic twist when Hurts ran over for his third touchdown of the game, to break the record for the most rushing TDs in Super Bowl history. The Eagles quarterback then completed the two-point conversion by dashing over the end zone again to tie up the game at 35-35.
With the game headed into its final minute, Kansas City was content to wind down the clock, before setting up for a field goal opportunity. Harrison Butker made no mistake with the 27-yard kick as the Chiefs hit the front with eight seconds left on the clock.
The Eagles had just enough time to receive the kick from the restart and set up for one final Hail Mary play. However, when Hurts' long pass failed to find a teammate, the Chiefs players and their fans broke roared in delight as they completed a stunning turnaround to claim the Super Bowl trophy, with fans left in awe at the courageous performance from Mahomes.
Fantastic game, congrats to the Chiefs. Remarkable performance from Patrick Mahomes considering his injury. #SBLVII

Patrick Mahomes has only been an NFL starter for five seasons but he would already be in the Hall of Fame. He has 192 TDs and only 49 INTs and already has won two Super Bowls. He has won two MVPs already. #Chiefs
