Pat Cummins endures brutal IPL display as Glenn Maxwell makes winning cricket return

The Aussie captain is copping it from the crowd after two poor displays.

Aussie captain Pat Cummins copped it from the fans in Chennai after another tough display by his own standards as Glenn Maxwell enjoyed a winning return to the IPL for the Royal Challengers. Maxwell left Aussie cricket fans rocked the other week when he dropped himself from the Challengers to take a mental and physical break from the game.

Maxwell was then revealed to be battling a hip injury during his batting woes. While Maxwell took some time away, the allrounder made a return to the starting line-up for the Challengers in their win over the Titans. After 12 days, Maxwell returned and took the wicket of Shubman Gill in the first over.

Fellow international star Cameron Green helped take the catch as Maxwell let out a roar in delight having made a successful return. Maxwell didn't get an opportunity to bat after an incredible run chase from the Challengers.

Virat Kohli was immense to start the chase of 200 having hit 70 off 44 balls. Faf du Plessis scored 24 runs before he was out, but Will Jacks took to the crease and smashed a century off 41 balls to leave the cricket world in awe.

The Englishman hit a six off the last ball of the game to bring up his century. He hit 10 sixes in the innings having started slowly. Jacks is hoping to be included in the England T20 World Cup squad and his insane knock will only strengthen his position.

While the Challengers' run-chase was formidable, Cummins wasn't able to lead his team to a victory having suffered a poor night with the white-ball. The Chennai Super Kings posted a big total of 3-212 with Cummins' bowling attack unable to make inroads.

Cummins went for 0-49 off four overs, which was the worst economy of the night for any bowler. He then wasn't able to help stop mastermind the wicket of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad' who blasted 98 off 54 balls. And the Sunrisers collapsed during their run-chase having only managed 134 on a night where dew in the outfield played a role.

Fellow Aussie Travis Head wasn't able to replicate some of his sensational form in recent weeks having only managed 13 off seven balls. During the World Cup final against India, Cummins said he wanted to silence the crowd early. And after a poor game from his own standards, the Aussie captain was mocked by members of the crowd with the noise thunderous in Chennai.

Many fans were pictured gesturing for Cummins to stay silent after his World Cup comments. Some could be heard chanting 'silence' as Cummins walked off after beign dismissed for five runs. More worrying for Cummins would be the form of his team having now lost two in a row.

Cummins started off in brilliant form in this year's IPL having gone for a record-breaking figure. However, his last game also saw him go for 1-55 in the Sunrisers' loss. And Cummins admitted it was a tough time out in on the field pitch. "Nothing really went to plan tonight," Cummins said in his post-match interview. The Sunrisers dropped down to fourth after the two losses in a row. Cummins admitted he wasn't too worried about their batting form with a number of stars failing to fire in the last two outings.
