Olympics soccer games today: USWNT vs. Brazil highlights Paris Games slate
Saturday will see the conclusion of the soccer competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the United States and Brazil battling for the gold medal in the women's tournament.
The U.S. women's national team has been in top form, winning all five of its matches at the Paris Games thus far by a combined scoreline of 11-2. With a defense built around center back Naomi Girma and a forward line of Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson all scoring — including extra-time game-winners from Rodman and Smith in the knockout rounds — the USWNT could be back on top after a few disappointing years.
The last team in the USWNT's way? Brazil, who stunned World Cup champions Spain in the semifinal round. With six-time world player of the year Marta planning to retire from the national team after these Olympics, the Brazilians are extraordinarily motivated to send her off with a gold medal.
This will mark the second time this year that these nations have met in a tournament final. In March, the USWNT came out on top, winning the Concacaf W Gold Cup final 1-0 on a goal from captain Lindsey Horan.
