Before today, Kevin Durant had probably never heard of Damian Martin.

During the USA’s 98-88 win over Australia in Rio, he was not only introduced, he learnt why the Wildcats captain is a five-time NBL defensive player of the year.

Martin, playing at his first Olympics, saw three minutes of court time against the USA and made a brief impact by stripping the 2014 NBA MVP of the ball with two minutes remaining in the first half.

The steal led to a pair of Patty Mills free throws which put the Boomers up 49-43.

His wife was watching closely.

The Australians struggled to hold onto their lead in the second half, and have put the game down to a missed opportunity, but Martin’s steal was a moment Cats fans will remember for some time.
